Pfhpa And Its Salts Added To Candidate List Of Substances Of Very High Concern

PFHpA and its salts added to Candidate List of substances of very high concern

EPA takes action to address PFAS contamination

New listing will help protect human health and the environment

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has added perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA) and its salts to the Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) for eventual regulation under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

PFHpA is a synthetic chemical that is used in a variety of industrial and consumer products, including nonstick cookware, food packaging, and textiles. It is also a byproduct of the production of other PFAS chemicals, such as PFOA and PFOS.

PFHpA has been linked to a number of health problems, including cancer, developmental disorders, and immune system dysfunction. It is also persistent in the environment and can accumulate in the human body over time.

The EPA's action to add PFHpA to the SVHC list is a significant step towards protecting human health and the environment from this harmful chemical.
